Elf Hats!!!

So I am back to crocheting and after making several scarves, I am moving onto hats...elf hats (as my daughter calls them) to be exact.  I wanted to make this hat, but had no idea how to search for a pattern, because I had no idea what to call it.  I searched Christmas hat, Santa hat, long hat, and finally found one called elf hat.  So after the over an hour long search, I found a pattern (which I partially followed), found some pink yarn in my stash that I was sure would be perfect, and made my daughter a hat, in what seemed like no time at all.  I put it out for her to see when she woke up like I always do, and what is the first thing out of her mouth..."mommy, you made me an elf hat!"  SERIOUSLY?!?!?!  How did it take me forever to figure out what to call that hat, just to search it, and my 4 year old gets it on the first try?  I guess that means I accomplished what I was trying to do...I made an elf hat!!!!

I don't seem to have a picture of the original, solid pink elf hat with pom-pom, but since that one was such a big hit, I decided to try out the striped look.  We are big time Gator fans around here, so of course I have tons of orange and blue in just about any crafting medium you can think of!  I wanted to make an oversized, orange and blue, elf hat to use in a Christmas picture on my baby boy.  Not only did I decide to make it orange and blue striped, but I wanted to add a white band around the head and a white pom-pom.  All I can say about this is...SUCCESS!!!  Not a professional job, by any means, but total SUCCESS nonetheless!!!  And since this is the hat we used for the Christmas picture, here it is...

Of course I couldn't resist posting this as soon as I had made it and I got message after message from people asking if I could do it in other colors and how much they would cost.  Unfortunately, since I have just started making them, it is taking me about 4-6 hours to make each hat, and I would have to charge way too much to justify time spent.  Maybe if I keep working on them for fun and have a bunch for next year, I won't mind parting with them for less money!  I would love to craft for a living, but I usually do it to see the smile on my daughter's face, because I need something specific, and most importantly because it is fun.  I wish I had the time to mass produce things to sell, but the kiddos keep me busy!!!!  I am always willing to teach anyone who wants to learn, though :)
